Mürren, the sun terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, is a car-free village that embodies the idyll and tranquility of the Swiss mountains.
Basically, the mountain village consists of not much more than two streets, tanned chalets and a few hotels. To cross the village on foot takes a maximum of 15 minutes, but you should allow enough time for taking pictures, visiting restaurants and browsing through the various stores.
From the lower street of the village you have an impressive view that is second to none. Behind every corner in this village you will discover new motifs and loving details, be it flowering gardens, ornate house walls or new views of the surrounding mountains.
If you decide to visit Mürren, you should definitely use both paths that lead to the mountain village. The arrival with the cable car via Stechelberg offers a spectacular view and leads steeply into the heights. A little more comfortable is the arrival over the Grütschalp. From the small train, you can enjoy the view of the mountain world of the Jungfrau region.
To rest and relax in Mürren, you simply sit down on one of the sun terraces and will be pampered by the hosts of the village. Friends of traditional Swiss cuisine will find what they are looking for in most of the restaurants in the village. But also Italian, Asian and even Malaysian dishes are offered.
The stores of the village invite you to browse and discover. You will find everything from modern hiking boots, traditional souvenirs, jewelry to regionally produced clothing. The store "Exile on Mainstreet", run by the brand Piz Gloria, sells special souvenirs that perfectly embody the region. In the village's farm vending machine you can easily buy local specialties such as honey, sausage and mountain cheese.
The tranquil and quiet Mürren is happy to welcome guests from all over the world who appreciate these specialities.
